Our Work
Projects across Reno & Sparks
Lighting photographs best at blue hour, roughly twenty minutes after sunset, when there is still color in the sky to hold the shape of the house. Every image below was taken on a real Northern Nevada property.
Projects across Reno & Sparks
The work above comes from properties around the Truckee Meadows, and the conditions vary more across this valley than most people expect. Hillside lots in Somersett, ArrowCreek, and the Galena foothills bring steep grade changes, long stair runs, and two-story elevations with complex rooflines. Established neighborhoods — Caughlin Ranch, Old Southwest Reno, Donner Springs — bring the mature pines and deciduous canopy that make uplighting worth doing.
Newer construction in Damonte Ranch, South Meadows, and Double Diamond tends toward hardscape-heavy yards where the design leans on grazing stone and lighting seat walls rather than trees. Across Sparks, Spanish Springs, Wingfield Springs, Kiley Ranch, and D’Andrea are dominated by single-story elevations, long straight eaves, and built-in outdoor rooms.
Each photograph is captioned with where it was taken and what is lit, so you can find something close to your own property rather than guessing from a stock image.
What to look for
Photographs flatter lighting, so it is worth knowing what separates a good installation from a well-photographed one.
Look at where the fixtures are, or rather where they are not. In a considered design you should struggle to find the sources: you see lit canopy, lit stone, and a legible walk, but not a row of bright points. Look at evenness — whether light falls off gradually between pools or leaves hard black gaps between hotspots. Look at color consistency across an elevation, since mismatched color temperature is the clearest sign of fixtures added piecemeal over the years.
Then look at what is left dark. Deciding not to light something is as much a part of the design as deciding to.
